ALEXANDRIA, Ky. -- Something bad led to something good for a group of Kentucky women who compete in dragon boat racing internationally.
All the members of the "Kentucky Thoroughbreasts" are breast cancer survivors. They compete against other teams of breast cancer survivors from around the world, according to coach Priscilla Elgersma.
Janet Rogers is one of them.
"It's my passion now. I'm the oldest on the team," she said. "I'm 71 years old, and I've never been in better shape in my life, and it's because breast cancer brought me here."
Their strength propels 20 survivors, plus a drummer and a steersperson, across the water.
"It is truly every stroke from seat one to seat 10 working totally in unison," Elgersma said.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare sponsors the team.
