The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will resume driver’s license tests at a handful of locations Friday and across the state on June 16, spokesperson Lindsey Borher announced Tuesday.
Drivers seeking their first license will be required to make an appointment for their skills testing ahead of time, and the test will be administered by an instructor observing them from outside the vehicle to reduce the risk of either person catching COVID-19.
The locations that will begin offering appointments Friday are:
- 8210 County Rd. 140, Suite C, Findlay, Ohio 45840 (Hancock County)
- 22133 Rockside Road, Bedford, Ohio 44146 (Cuyahoga County)
- 990 Morse Road, Suite B, Columbus, Ohio 43229 (Franklin County)
- 873 East Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055 (Licking County)
- 502 McCarty Lane, Suite 3, Jackson, Ohio 45640 (Jackson County)
- 10940 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Hamilton County)
Anyone seeking an appointment can make one here.
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Health director Amy Acton to shut down the BMV’s in-person services statewide between mid-March and late May.
In the process, they extended the expiration dates for vehicle registration and existing licenses — any BMV document that would have expired during the pandemic will instead expire 90 days after the end of the state of emergency.
The BMV reopened to most in-person business in late May. Bureau spokespeople continue to recommend that Ohioans complete tasks such as purchasing temporary tags, renewing their registration and ordering new license plates online.
