UNION, Ky. — Deputies said an 18-year-old Union man confessed to stabbing a 15-year-old who attempted to punch him Tuesday night, leaving the boy with life-threatening injuries.
August Schroer stands charged with first-degree assault in connection to the attack, according to a news release from Boone County deputies. Officials said the pair knew one another and had recently fallen out.
When the victim confronted him, Schroer threatened the boy with the knife.
The boy swung anyway, according to deputies’ account of Schroer’s story. Schroer stabbed him once in the abdomen before calling 911 and flagging down a nearby ambulance.
According to an earlier release, Schroer “handed the knife over to (first responders) and waited for deputies to arrive.”
The victim was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remained in surgery early Wednesday morning.
If convicted, Schroer could face up to 20 years in prison.
