Union Twp SWAT standoff over; police say area is safe again

UNION TWP — At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Union Township Police responded to Hillview Drive in Union Township for reports of a person barricaded inside a residence.

According to police, the resident fired a weapon several times before barricading himself inside the home on Hillview. Union Police requested the assistance of the Clermont County Special Response Team, and blocked off roads throughout the area.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., police reported the standoff had ended, and the area was safe again.

"The person responsible for the barricade situation, preliminary investigation reveals he died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Detective John Pavia with the Union Township Police. "His name is Michael Dufresne. He is 54 years old, from Cincinnati. It appears it was due to a domestic incident."

No officers or others were injured during the standoff, but police declined to discuss more details behind what caused it.
