CHEVIOT, Ohio — An 8-year-old Cheviot School student is facing several charges, police say, for bringing a loaded handgun to school.
School security contacted the Cheviot Police Department Wednesday after a student notified a teacher that a book bag hanging in the classroom contained a gun, according to police.
School security took the book bag to the school office until police arrived. Officers say they found a semi-automatic 9mm pistol which was loaded.
Police took the suspect, a boy, into custody.
The school, located at 4040 Harrison Ave., is part of the Cincinnati Public Schools district.
CPS spokesperson Frances Russ says the boy showed the gun to several students, but says no students were injured or threatened.
"Our students acted quickly and calmly to keep the situation under control," Russ said in a written statement.
The incident remains under investigation by Cheviot police.
