FOREST PARK, Ohio -- Police and neighbors were shaken up by a rare fatal shooting in a quiet Forest Park neighborhood Wednesday night.

Police found 27-year old Marcus Brown lying dead in the grass outside a home on Komura Court, a cul-de-sac near Winton Woods High school.

Detectives are still trying to figure out what happened early that evening. There was still plenty of daylight when a 911 call came in about 6:30.

A 911 caller described what he saw:

“Across the street from my house is a man laying in the grass,” the caller said.

“This is a quiet neighborhood," said police Chief Bill Arns.

Arns said detectives don’t have a lot to go on.

“There was no indication of what may have led up to a shooting,” the chief said. “We talked to neighbors in the area. They did not see anything unusual.

“One resident did say they heard what they thought was a firecracker and then 10 minutes later is when the police and medics arrived."

Detectives will now look into Brown's history to see if they can find any connections that will lead them to a suspect.

“Now it's just a lot of leg work to talk to family, talk to friends, see who his associates were, see if there's anybody that may have been angry with him," said Arns.

The last deadly shooting in Forest Park was in 2017, Arns said. “When we have somebody that's shot in a residential neighborhood, obviously that's a little disconcerting and we really want to find out what happened there,” the chief said.

Police asked anyone with information to call them at 513-595-5220.
