MASON, Ohio — Crews installed the first track piece of Kings Island's new giga coaster, Orion, Saturday.
This is the first of 184 track pieces which will make up the 300-foot-tall steel coaster.
Riders of Orion will traverse 5,321 feet of track and eight hills at speeds near 91 mph, making it the 10th-fastest rollercoaster on Earth.
According to Kings Island vice president Mike Koontz, Orion will also cost roughly what constructing the entirety of the original park did in 1972.
The new ride will open at the former site of the Firehawk in spring 2020.
