Mason firefighter accused of assaulting police officer, fire chief

MASON, Ohio — A Mason firefighter is accused of assaulting a police officer and the city’s fire chief, according to a police report.

Joseph Mikal Bales, 27, assaulted officer Jeremy Saylor and Mason Fire Chief Bryan Brumagen at about 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mason Fire Department on Mason Montgomery Road, according to the report.

City spokesperson Jennifer Heft confirmed Bales is a Mason firefighter/EMT and that he has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending investigation.

Both victims sustained minor injuries, according to the police report. It’s unclear what led up to the incident.
