CINCINNATI — The sun was high and children were still on the Villages of Roll Hill basketball courts Thursday evening when a man stepped from behind a nearby building and shot another, leaving him with what police described as critical injuries.

“The victim was talking when he was transported,” police Capt. Paul Broxterman said. “He couldn’t offer a motive or any idea why this subject shot him. The sad thing is it’s almost common to these kids.”

The suspect, whom police described as firing up to 9 times while wearing a white bandana over his face, fled the scene on foot. The victim was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to Lt. Steve Saunders.

By 7 p.m., the basketball court where the shooting occurred was blocked off with yellow tape and crime scene markers.

“It’s senseless," Broxterman said.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact police or call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040. Tipsters can choose to remain anonymous.
