KENTON COUNTY, Ky. -- A judge sentenced a man to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend in her Taylor Mill apartment in 2016, according to Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders.
Judge Gregory Bartlett sentenced Lamont Johnson, 41, to life in prison Friday for beating and strangling 34-year-old Trina Coleman to death.
A jury recommended a life sentence for Johnson on Jan. 12. It was the first murder in Taylor Mill in almost 30 years, Chief Steve Knauf said.
When Coleman never showed up for work on Nov. 1, 2016, her family went to her apartment on Sharon Drive and found her body in the hallway.
Det. Cyrus Harris headed the investigation that led to Johnson's arrest three days after Coleman’s murder.
