MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- A judge set a $1 million bond Wednesday for a man charged with killing his wife.

Bobby Jo Nitz, 45, is charged with murder in the death of Crista Virginia Nitz, 41.

He was arrested in Meigs County, southeast of Chillicothe, after a chase, police said.

A prosecutor asked for a high bond, saying Nitz had fled.

When the judge asked Nitz about the bond, he replied: "I've never been in trouble before. I've been in the county jail in Meigs County for fighting. That's about it."

Crista Nitz's 11-year-old daughter reported finding her mother dead Sunday night. She'd been shot in the head, police said.

The couple had been arguing, and the girl told police she heard a loud sound before Bobby Jo Nitz drove away on his motorcycle.

Bobby Jo Nitz also told a friend he had just killed his wife, police said in a news release.

The girl is safe with her biological father.
