SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Hamilton County deputies went to Kenwood Towne Centre on Wednesday for a report of an active shooter. It turned out to be a failed jewelry heist.

The Butler County sheriff reported a similar case from the night before.

In Kenwood, the would-be thief tried using a hammer to break a display case at Stratford Jewelers. When that didn't work, he ran off without taking anything. No shots were fired, and nobody was hurt.

The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff's office is treating it as a case of attempted theft/criminal damaging.

In Butler County, Sheriff Richard Jones said two men broke a display case at the Liberty Center Hannoush Jewelers. One of them took several rings and put them into what appeared to be a Louis Vuitton-style bag. They left in dark gray Chevy Malibu or Impala-type vehicle.

Anyone with information about the heist should contact Butler County Detective Joe Nerlinger 513-759-7344 or send a tip by texting "COPS" to 274637.
