LEBANON, Ohio — A former Franklin High School teacher was sentenced Friday to four years in prison for having sex with an underage student.
In March of 2018, the 16-year-old student approached 26-year-old Madalyn Arnett, of Dayton, at school to see what he could do to improve his grades. She later contacted him on social media and began having sexual conversations with him, sending nude images and videos of herself, Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said in a news release.
That evening, Arnett picked up the student down the street from his home and drove to a nearby parking lot, where they had sex in her car, Fornshell said.
The incident was subsequently reported to school officials, and then police.
Arnett pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual battery in March.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Timothy Tepe ordered that Arnett be registered as a Tier III sex offender.
"I continue to be amazed that teachers who engage in sexual activity with students believe that these teenagers will keep it secret," Fornshell said. "Eventually, it gets out, and when it does, the price is usually a prison sentence."
