TAYLOR MILL, Ky. – A man charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend in 2016 was convicted Friday.

The jury recommended a life sentence for Lamont Johnson in the killing of 34-year-old Trina Coleman on Nov. 2, 2016, according to Taylor Mill police. Coleman's family members discovered her body in her apartment on Sharon Drive.

It was the first murder in Taylor Mill in almost 30 years, Chief Steve Knauf said.

Det. Cyrus Harris headed the investigation that led to Johnson's arrest.

A jury in Kenton County Circuit Court deliberated less than one hour at the end of a four-day trial.

Formal sentencing will be held in March.
