LEBANON, Ohio -- Authorities are charging a driver who hit two good Samaritans, killing one of them, earlier this month.

John Cowdrey of Liberty Township is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and assured clear distance ahead, the Warren County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.

The crash occurred on May 11. Deputies previously said that Tina Campbell and Aaron Reed both stopped on Butler Warren Road in Mason that night to help people involved in an earlier collision. Then Cowdrey crashed into the cars, killing Campbell and injuring Reed.

Reed previously said the car was "flying down the street" when it hit them. He said Campbell, 53, had already called an ambulance for the people in the initial crash and had been "doing a great job" of keeping everybody calm.

Campbell's family said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put others first.
