OXFORD, Ohio — Miami University reported 159 new student cases of COVID-19 over the Labor Day weekend for a total of 1,037 active virus cases.

So far, there have been 1,084 total cases reported in Miami students. Three active cases and five cumulative cases have been reported in Miami employees.

The university will require all its students to be tested for COVID-19 as the number of positive cases climbs.

School and health officials have said many of those positive cases come from off-campus social gatherings.

The Butler County Health District previously ordered all student-athletes who returned to campus to quarantine for 14 days after 27 positive COVID-19 tests were reported on various teams.

University officials are hoping to resume in-person classes on Sept. 21.
