Organizers of one of the region’s biggest fall festivals have announced the cancellation of this year’s festival.

The Ohio Renaissance Festival, held weekends throughout September and October in Waynesville celebrating the Renaissance era with entertainment, food and shopping, has been canceled due to ongoing concerns around the spread of COVID-19, event organizers shared today on social media.

“It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to cancel the 2020 season of the Ohio Renaissance Festival. Amid growing concerns stemming from COVID-19 and with the health and safety of all of you being first and foremost in our minds, we the owners/management have made this difficult decision. We have spent much of our time ensuring a safe environment for revelry and fun. However, at the end of the day, we cannot justify putting the public, our participants, or employees at risk,” festival organizers wrote on Facebook.

Those with season passes, memberships or single-day tickets can hang onto those for 2021 or request a refund. Information on the refund process will be shared soon.
