CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is one of four sites in the U.S. to begin human trials for a COVID-19 vaccine in the upcoming weeks.
According to the hospital, the screening process has already begun for people who want to participate in the first clinical trials of the BNT162 vaccine program.
The program and potential vaccine were created by pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the biotech company BioNTech.
"We are excited about this vaccine and think it has the possibility to decrease the risk of infection from COVID-19,” said Dr. Robert Frenck, who will lead the study.
The initial tests will consist of about 90 participants, who will be given a part of the COVID-19 virus in order for antibodies to be created within each participant's body to fight the virus.
