CINCINNATI — Kroger is paying a one-time bonus to each of its hourly workers in the U.S., amid the coronavirus pandemic, the company said Saturday.
Every hourly grocery employee, supply chain, manufacturing and customer service associate hired before March 1, will get a bonus on April 3 -- $300 for full-time employees and $150 for part-time employees.
In a press release, Kroger's chairman and CEO Rodney McMullen said Kroger employees have been essential to the community during the global pandemic.
"Grocery workers are on the frontlines, ensuring Americans have access to the food and products they need during this unprecedented pandemic. Our associates are working around the clock to keep our stores open for our customers. I am incredibly grateful for all they are doing. The true heroes in this story are our associates, and we want to provide them with additional resources and support to help them continue their remarkable effort," McMullen said.
The company also expanded its COVID-19 emergency leave guidelines to include paid time off for self-isolation for employees with symptoms verified by a doctor. Employees are eligible to receive their standard pay for up to two weeks.
