Girl Scouts find a way to save cookie sales while helping first responders

A sweet solution

CINCINNATI — Girl Scouts usually have their cookie tables set up during this time of the year so you can stock up on your favorites, but sales have been shut down for the safety of the scouts.

That left a lot of troops with a boatload of extra cookies to sell.

Jessica Nottingham has been selling girl scout cookies for 13 years -- she averages about 300 boxes a year.

She says the cookie booths are great because people are really friendly, but now they're selling cookies in a new way -- hitting up social media to get people to buy cookies not for themselves, but for front line workers like those in grocery stores and hospitals.

"It makes me feel a little better because I feel like we're helping them out a little more. I know nurses are having long hours right now. I work at Kroger and some of my managers were super grateful because we donated some of the boxes there,” Nottingham said.

Nottingham said they have plenty of cookies between local troops that can be purchased and donated.
