CINCINNATI -- Five months after launching its first restaurant concept in Union, Kentucky, the Kroger Co. is expanding Kitchen 1883 with a second location in Anderson Township.
The stand-alone restaurant will open this fall with a lunch and dinner menu featuring "new, local dishes" and an outdoor patio. Kroger's press release didn't identify a specific location.
The original Kitchen 1883 opened to one-hour wait times last November, with offerings that included a cauliflower sprout appetizer, Vegan chili and slow-cooked beef ribs with "horseradish smashed potatoes."
"With Kitchen 1883, our vision is to create a gathering place that offers a casual atmosphere for guests to relax and experience food," said Daniel Hammer, Kroger's vice president of culinary development and new business, in a news release. "Since opening our pilot restaurant five months ago, we've discovered new ideas that will help to shape our future dining concepts and in-store fresh food experiences."
The stand-alone restaurant will be a new twist for Kitchen 1883. Its first location was a separate space attached to a Kroger Marketplace store.
