Friday, June 1, 2018 is another of those made-up national holidays, but this one is actually fun.
It is National Doughnut Day. No, you won't get a day off from work, but you could grab a free doughnut on the way in. (You can spell it "donut" as long as you are not in the Scripps Spelling Bee this week).
The day, the first Friday in June, has actually been around since World War II. It was originally marked to honor the troops with free donuts courtesy the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Ary is throwing a doughnut party at Noon Friday on Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati, with games, local celebrities (including some 9 On Your Side personalities), and yes, free donuts.
Where the Deals Are
Dunkin Donuts will give you a free doughnut with any coffee or beverage purchaseon Friday.
Krispy Kreme will give each customer one free glazed doughnut, no purchase required. This is at Krispy Kreme stores only (Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township), so don't try to grab one off the supermarket shelf and eat it, wiseguy.
Busken Bakery will havefree kettle donuts in the morning (the rectangular ones), while they last, and will give you a chance to win free donuts for a year on Busken's Facebook page. Not sure I really want free doughnuts for a whole year, but I've never turned down a freebie, so why not.
Entenmann's will also give 10 people free doughnuts for a year, if you enter their online contest..
Tim Horton's typically posts a coupon for a free doughnut on its website the morning of National Doughnut Day, if you have any Tim Horton's in your area. In Cincinnati, you'll find them in Clifton. Maineville, and Monroe, and on Colerain Avenue in Northgate. In Canada, you'll find one on every block.
As always, don't waste your money.
