Good news for Kings Island fans.

The Mason, Ohio, park has announced it will open for Passholder Preview Days on Saturday, May 8, and Sunday, May 9, 2021.

Now the bad news: that's a month later than when it usually opens, which tends to be in mid-April during non-pandemic years.

Kings Island has also not yet announced an official opening date for the general public, though that is usually about a week after preview days.

Park spokesman Chad Showalter tells WCPO that "the full schedule, including any update to safety protocols or park operations will be announced at a later date."

Parent Cedar Fair is not rushing park openings this year, as they will have to meet all state and local COVID rules, as they did last year.

At least fans will not have to wait until July this year.

Sister park Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, will open Friday, May 14 to everyone, so it is possible Kings Island might open to the public then.

Best of all for passholders is that both Kings Island and Cedar point will honor last year's Gold and Platinum passes, due to last year's shortened pandemic season.

Look for a fully refurbished Racer coaster as one of the highlights of the 2021 season.

As always, don't waste your money.
