Over the next few days, 20 local high school students will meet and take part in a workshop to pitch and learn about what it takes to start their own business.
The event is called Startup Saturday, and it is like a mix of the shows Shark Tank and the Apprentice. The students will have to navigate a maze of challenges and learn about starting a business before they pitch their business idea to a panel of judges.
"I think it’s really exciting to have something that motivates me so that I do want to do it for myself," Ayushe Nagpal, one of the students, said.
This year, the event will be virtual, but the goal of encouraging students to develop creative solutions for smaller businesses is the same.
"I think it’s particularly relevant now," Brit Fitzpatrick, executive director of Blue North KY, one of the sponsors of the event, said. "Even during times of economic recession, small businesses continue to drive growth through job creation..."
