CINCINNATI — The Freestore Foodbank holiday food giveaway is underway, and this year they are holding a drive-thru event so people don't have to get out of their car to get their meal.

The organization has held their holiday food giveaway event for more than 25 years, and each year they have given out things like chicken, ham and fresh produce.

Because of the pandemic, though, people will not have to get out of their car to get their food. People just have to pull up to the Reds Youth Academy at 2026 E. Seymour Ave. and pop their trunk and someone will load the food into their car.

Trisha Rayner with the Freestore Foodbank is urging people not to be shy about coming out to the giveaway or asking for any kind of help, given the year it has been.

"We've seen neighbors helping neighbors, we've seen the community surround and kind of wrap each other around all of those that are in need," Rayner said. "And all of us need help at some point in our lives. And it's okay to ask for that help."

The giveaway is happening between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you can't make it out Friday, people can still pick up food at the Freestore Foodbank Customer Connection Center at 112 E. Liberty St. until Wednesday.
