MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Citing concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 in Butler County, the Middletown City School District Board of Education voted that all schools will start the 2020-2021 under remote learning guidelines and remain remote until further notice.

Currently, Butler County is listed as Level 3/Red level public emergency as defined by the Ohio Public Health Advisory System, indicating very high risk of COVID-19 exposure and spread.

“This is a decision the Board of Education and my administrative team have not made lightly as we all want to get back to the classroom environment, but the risks to the health and safety of our students and staff are too great at this point in time,” said Middletown City School District Marlon Styles, Jr. “When it is safe to do so, we will make decisions on returning to an in-person classroom environment with the guidance and support of our area health departments.”

The 2020-2021 year is scheduled to start on Aug. 17.
