CINCINNATI – Everything is coming up biscuits for the latest restaurant to open in Over-the-Rhine.
Pleasantry, located at the corner of 15th and Pleasant streets, quietly opened its doors for breakfast and lunch on Sunday, May 1.
The owners, 1215 Wine Bar & Coffee Lab owner Joanna Kirkendall and 1215 sommelier and wine director Daniel Souder, were inspired to open their second store after a trip to California last year.
"Our food philosophy at Pleasantry inverts the usual relationship of food and wine," Souder said. "So often at restaurants, the wine list is an afterthought. Here, the wine is the driving force."
The OTR restaurant promises “a harmonious coupling” of local foods (like biscuits made from scratch), and natural wines made just from fermented grapes and nothing else.
Pleasantry's executive chef Evan Hartman has put together a menu that “expresses Pleasantry's unique philosophy with small plates that highlight impeccable seasonal ingredients sourced from farmers, fishers, and butchers who operate sustainably,” the couple said when they first announced the restaurant.
“We are taking the beverage programs we’ve worked so hard on at 1215, and adding food around them for every meal," Kirkendall said.
Pleasantry is currently serving breakfast from 8-11 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Saturday, with dinner hours coming soon. Menu items include granola, breakfast sandwiches, bread pudding, quiche, toasts, salads, biscuits and burgers made from locally sourced ingredients listed on the menu.
