DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — President Donald Trump has given final approval to legislation that will rename a federal building in Dayton, Ohio, for Judge Walter Rice.
Rep. Mike Turner, a Dayton Republican, sponsored the legislation alongside Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and Republican Sen. Rob Portman. The Dayton Daily News reports Trump recently signed the bill into law.
Turner says a panel unanimously recommended naming the building after Rice. The federal building has gone unnamed since it opened in 1975.
Rice was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in 1980 by then-President Jimmy Carter. He previously served as chief judge on the court from 1996 to 2003, and currently is a senior status judge on the court.
