CINCINNATI — Who's ready to kick some ax? Or, more accurately, throw?

Urban Axes, the newest recreational ax-throwing facility in the region will start with a "soft opening" this Friday evening in Over-the-Rhine. The location's inaugural local axe-throwing league will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

The competitive league pits individual ax throwers against one another. Weekly matches take about two-and-a-half hours and the league season is eight weeks long. The cost to participate in the league is $130. Urban Axes is located at 2010 Elm St. near Rhinegeist.

Urban Axes will serve alcohol, though its bar may not be open for a portion of its "soft opening." The bar will be fully operational when Urban Axes hosts its grand opening celebration on Jan. 25, according to the event's organizers.

People can currently sign up for league play at urbanaxes.com.
