An Evening with Viet Nguyen: 7-9 p.m. Friday. Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, 35 W. Fifth St., Downtown. Free-$20. Come hear Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Nguyen discuss his career and novel "The Sympathizer" this Friday in the Pavillion Ballroom at the Netherland. "Sons & Daughters of Thunder": 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. The Garfield Theatre, 719 Race St., Downtown. $7 advance or $10 at door for Stowe House members; $12 advance or $15 at door general admission; $7 advance or $10 at door for student and ArtsPass admission. The Cincinnati World Cinema will premiere the documentary "Sons & Daughters of Thunder" this Saturday in conjunction with the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. The film depicts Cincinnati's role in the history of abolition and slavery. Findlay Market Opening Day Parade Party: 5-10 p.m. Saturday. Bockfest Hall, 1619 Moore St., Over-the-Rhine. Free. Celebrate the historic 100th anniversary of the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade with a free party inside Bockfest Hall this Saturday. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with parade performers, plus arts and crafts for kids from 5-6:30 p.m. There will then be a proclamation and toast at 6:30 p.m., followed by the announcement of parade costume contest winners at 7 p.m. The party will continue with free dessert and live entertainment until 10 p.m. And don't forget to purchase your Opening Day Parade Party packages by Friday online before picking them up Saturday at Findlay Market before heading over to the party. www.eventbrite.com

Macaron Day: Saturday. Multiple participating locations. Enjoy a free macaron and then buy a few more this weekend to support local non-profit organizations. Thirteen bakeries across the Queen City will be participating in Macaron Day 2019 this Saturday. Bakeries such as Macaron Bar, Gigi's Cupcakes, Bonbonerie and Sweet Petit Desserts will be giving away a free macaron and then donating a portion of sales to the Freestore Foodbank. www.macaron-day.com

Spring Brew Review: 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Courtyard by Marriott, 1 Riverfront Plaza, Hamilton. $50 for tasting; $25 for designated drivers.
