Glier’s Goettafest

Get your goetta straight up, fried in patties, put between two buns or rolled into balls during Glier’s Goettafest. The festival, held in front of Newport on the Levee, also will feature live entertainment, amusement rides and drinks in celebration of the region’s favorite breakfast food.

Delhi Skirt Game

Batter up! A unique fundraising event returns to Delhi on Friday. Men will don their best skirts and play softball to raise money for various community nonprofits. Food and drink booths also will raise money for community causes during the game, which was first played in 1978.

Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper at Riverbend

Pop legends Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper will deliver a lot of memories from the 1970s and 1980s when they take the stage at Riverbend Music Center on Friday. Stewart is best known for songs such as “Maggie May,” “Some Guys Have All the Luck” and “Forever Young.” Lauper built a career out of her flamboyant stage presence and such songs as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “True Colors” and more recently the music she created for the hit Broadway musical “Kinky Boots.”

Great American Date Night ... and Flo Rida 

Take the one you love to the Great American Date Night game between the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park on Friday. Stay after the game for free fireworks and a concert by rapper Flo Rida. Date Night includes food, drinks and appetizers from the Machine Room Grille, and the concert is the second in a series of three free shows at the ballpark this season.

Covington Outdoors Weekend

Cross your fingers and hope for good weather during Covington Outdoors Weekend, which kicks off Friday. Renaissance Covington has organized 15 free outdoor events to showcase what Covington has to offer. The weekend starts with a bike ride, yoga and outdoor movie night. It ends on Sunday with an obstacle race, free golf and a chance for your pooch to splash in a public pool.

Our Lady of Victory Holy Smokes BBQ Competition

The name alone makes this annual West Side event stand out. That the Our Lady of Victory Holy Smokes BBQ Competition is one of the few Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned cookoffs in the region makes it a must-attend event for meat lovers. More than 30 teams from across the country will compete in four categories (chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket) for the title of Holy Smokes grand champion. There will be a new children’s barbecue division competition this year as well. Did we mention you get to sample all the food? And don’t miss the piglet races and other games that benefit Our Lady of Victory Parish.

Milford Street Eats Food Truck Rally

Come hungry to the Milford Street Eats Food Truck Rally on Saturday. Sample food and drinks from more than 20 local vendors during the festival, which benefits Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Clermont County. Vendors include C’est Cheese, MadTree and Old Firehouse breweries, Chicken Mac truck and others.

Ohio River Paddlefest

Boat rentals may be sold out, but there is still time to bring your own or just head down to the river and watch Paddlefest on Saturday. There will be a Paddle Party on Friday night, followed by the 9-mile float down the Ohio River on Saturday, as well as finishers festivities.

Higher Gravity Grand Opening

What does an assembly of 500-plus beers look like? Some might say heaven. Higher Gravity will officially open its pearly gates with a grand opening celebration in Northside this Saturday. The bar and bottle shop will feature $5 flight specials from Urban Artifact, Rhinegeist, Braxton and Fifty West breweries during the event. Django also will sell tacos at the store.

Bonus event: Nappy Roots at the Woodward

Southern rap quartet Nappy Roots will perform on Saturday at the Woodward Theater. The group from Bowling Green, Kentucky, rose to fame in the 1990s with such hits as "Po' Folks," "Awnaw," "Roun' the Globe" and "Good Day." Doughty Family also will perform.
