CINCINNATI — When The National’s Homecoming Music Festival returns to Smale Riverfront Park in May, its lineup will include legendary musician Patti Smith.

The National announced on Wednesday that Smith and her band will round out a festival lineup that also will include Sylvan Esso, Of Monsters and Men, Local Natives, Japanese Breakfast, Phosphorescent, Hamilton Leithauser, Jay Som, Sudan Archives, Velvet Negroni, Wussy and Triiibe.

The National also will perform its fifth studio album, “High Violet,” in its entirety at Homecoming, which will take place May 8-9.

“It’s great to invite our friends and fans to our hometown – the place where we all began our lives as listeners and musicians,” said Bryan Devendorf of The National in a press release. “Putting on this intimate event on the banks of the Ohio River is meaningful to us and our families. We are so very grateful.”

The National formed in the Queen City in 1999. The band includes Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Scott Devendorf and Bryan Devendorf.

The inaugural Homecoming festival, which took place April 28-29, 2018, featured performances by The National, Father John Misty, The Breeders, Lord Huron, Feist, Future Islands and Moses Sumney.

Tickets for Homecoming will go on sale starting 10 a.m. Friday at www.ntlhomecoming.com. Ticket prices will start at $35, according to a post by The National on Twitter.

Homecoming will coincide with the Bryce Dessner-organized MusicNOW Festival, which returns May 8-10 after taking a year’s hiatus as well.
