CINCINNATI — Rapper Chuck D is no stranger to standing in front of a crowd and offering his frank opinions on topics such as a social justice, race and power.

The 58-year-old leader of the socially conscious rap group Public Enemy will do just that on Feb. 7 as the 2019 guest speaker for the Mercantile Library's "The Words & Music Lecture" series.

The private library, located at 414 Walnut St., Downtown, launched its "The Words & Music Lecture" series in 2017 with singer-songwriter and novelist Josh Ritter. Last year's guest speaker was singer-songwriter Steve Earle.

During his visit to the library, Chuck D will discuss the origins of Public Enemy, cultural literacy and confronting power starting at 6:30 p.m. The rapper will not perform during the event.

Signed copies of Chuck D's chronological survey of rap and hip-hop "This Day in Rap and Hip-Hop History" will be available for purchase at the event courtesy of Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

There is limited seating inside the library for this ticketed event. Tickets to the event are free for library members. Non-members can pay $45 per ticket to attend. Tickets can be reserved at the merchantilelibrary.com.
