CINCINNATI – Don't worry, the closing of Macy's Downtown department store in March won't affect the holiday festivities the company sponsors each year at Fountain Square.

The Cincinnati-based retailer is once again sponsoring the Light Up the Square event from 6-11 p.m. this Friday. The event will include a visit from Santa Claus, live music and the official tree lighting on Fountain Square, along with a fireworks show.

The first Macy's Downtown Dazzle will then take place starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Santa will repel down the side of the Huntington Place Center to the Fountain Place rooftop, followed by another fireworks display. Big Boy and specials guests Frisch’s will also welcome the Young Professionals Choral Collective and UC–CCM Ensemble, who perform at 5:30 p.m. the same day.

Macy's Downtown Dazzle continues at 6:30 p.m. each Saturday through Dec. 8.

And don't worry about Santa. He and Mrs. Claus have found a new place to meet and great children near Fountain Square now that Macy's is closed.

Mrs. Claus will host free story times at 7:15 p.m. starting this Saturday through Dec. 8 on the second floor of Carew Tower, which is located at 441 Vine St., Downtown.

Meanwhile, Santa will set up shop in the Carew Tower Arcade, which is located in the building's first floor. Bring your own camera to snap a picture with Santa from noon-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 22; noon-6 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 23; and noon-5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. African American Santa will be at the same location from 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays from Nov. 29 through Dec. 20.
