CINCINNATI — Grammy- and Academy Award-winning hip-hop star Common will headline the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s Classical Roots concert at 7:30 p.m. April 29.

Common will perform at Cincinnati Music Hall alongside singer Capathia Jenkins and the Classical Roots Community Mass Choir, which is made up of more than 100 singers representing area churches and music ministries. The CSYO Nouveau Chamber Players also will perform during the concert.

Common will perform “Glory” from the movie “Selma,” the song for which he and singer John Legend won an Oscar last year. They also won a Grammy for that recording.

Classical Roots started as a series of performances by the CSO in area churches before moving to Music Hall in 2011. The concert is designed to celebrate African-American musical heritage through gospel, R&B and spirituals, according to the CSO.

Tickets for the concert cost $25-$55 for adults and $10 for children under 17. Purchase tickets at the CSO Box Office, by phone at 513-381-3300 or online at www.cincinnatisymphony.org.
