Rumors have been flying about the possibility that Rhinegeist, one of Greater Cincinnati’s most popular craft breweries, is for sale.
Relax, Cincinnati beer fans.
“There is absolutely no truth to this,” said brewery spokeswoman Tracey Ireland.
Rumors linking Rhinegeist to both Anheuser-Busch and Fireman Capital Partners, owner of Oskar Blues, have persisted all summer. However, Rhinegeist owners Bob Bonder and Bryant Goulding offered a firm denial of those rumors via the brewery's Facebook page on Friday.
“The founders here at Rhinegeist wanted to take a bit of social media space to stomp out what seems to be a rampant rumor mill,” the post said. “We will not be selling to AB, MillerCoors, private equity, or anyone else. We have refused the meetings that have been offered and will continue to do so.”
According to the owners’ post, any future sale would be more in the form of becoming an employee-owned brewery, similar to New Belgium.
