CINCINNATI -- Kevin Smith, director of Gen X favorites "Clerks," "Chasing Amy" and "Mall Rats," stopped into a movie-inspired speakeasy Saturday after some intense lobbying on social media.
Video Archive in Walnut Hills planned a Kevin Smith Day Movie Marathon to coincide with the filmmaker's speaking engagement at Covington's Madison Theater.
Smith was on Facebook Live for his surprise visit (to no surprise, there are some F-bombs, so you know):
He also called the speakeasy "astounding:"
Your video store speakeasy is astounding, sir! Made my day to see @YogaHosers be the secret entrance lever! You're a credit to #Cincinnati! https://t.co/krVeAvFOTr

Video Archive also posted a video and a few photos of Smith hanging out Saturday afternoon:

Speakeasy co-owner Jacob Trevino pushed hard on social media to get Smith to show up and said proceeds from the event would be donated to the Wayne Foundation. Smith is on the board of directors for the nonprofit, which aims to end human trafficking.

Video Archive also planned a Jay and Silent Bob costume contest as part of the day's events, after the iconic stoner duo who made their first appearance in 1994's "Clerks." Smith has portrayed Silent Bob in several subsequent films.
