Fit and Fun: Calling all drummers (or anyone looking to get some aggression out!): Try POUND

Posted

Welcome to Fit and Fun!

WCPO editors Max Alter and Meghan Wesley love to work out. But, like anyone else, they get bored with the traditional gym workout. So they decided to start #fitandfun, an Instagram series where they will try different workouts throughout the area and take you along for the ride. They'll tell you the basics and give each workout a fun rating out of 10 every two weeks on Instagram. Follow along at @9OnYourSide and with the hashtag #fitandfun. Last time, we tried ELMNTL fitness. Find out more about it here.

This week: POUND at Sharonville Community Center

POUND is a group fitness workout inspired by drumming. There are no actual drums involved, but you do get your own set of drumsticks to pound away on the floor and get a great cardio workout in while having fun. You’ll squat, stretch, pound the floor and get a good sweat going to the music with this class.

When can I try?

The class is held at Sharonville Community Center at 10990 Thornview Drive on Monday nights at 6 p.m. Instructor Lisa Dean is fantastic.

What's the cost?

The first class is always free. It’s $7 for a drop-in pass, or you can get a flex pass for $25 a month, which allows you to take whatever classes you want whenever you want. There’s also a pass for $70 for three months. This is one of the cheapest classes I’ve taken so far.

Was it fun?

It was super fun. I loved how different it was — as someone who has tried lots of different workouts, this was completely unique. And all fitness levels can participate: This isn’t something that only people who are in really good shape can try. It’s also a great way to get some energy out by pounding on the floor with drumsticks. I gave it a 7/10 on the fun scale.

Give us ideas!
