Welcome to $30 & Under!

No long food reviews here. Just the essentials on where to find the best local eats to blow your mind, but not your budget. Twice a month, we challenge our team of foodies to scour the town for the best bites for two under $30. This is their latest discovery.

This Week's Find: Hitching Post (4535 Kellogg Ave., Cincinnati)

Why we love it: A claim like “World’s Best Fried Chicken” plastered across a restaurant’s side can’t go unexplored. While I can’t confirm this no-frills East End diner does indeed have the best on earth, it’s pretty darn good.

Hitching Post may not exude the trendy aura of Over-the-Rhine’s fried chicken joints, but who needs that when you’ve got friendly service on a first-name basis and bargain barrel prices?

At less than $8, the three-piece dinner nets you juicy white or dark meat, complemented by decent mashed potatoes and gravy, zesty cole slaw and a roll. We splurged with a $3 slice of chocolate cream pie, which rivals those at East Walnut Hill’s O Pie O at half the cost, yet our bill still didn't even crack $20.

With a 21-piece bucket of chicken costing $30, you could feed an army for cheap on the way to a summer concert at Riverbend Music Center or take it up to nearby Alms Park or California Woods for a picnic.
