Filmmaker George A. Romero, creator of “Night of the Living Dead” franchise, has died at 77, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Romero died Sunday following a “brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer,” according to a statement the LA Times obtained from his producing partner Peter Grunwald.
Romero revolutionized the zombie genre when he directed and co-wrote the 1968 movie "Night of the Living Dead" with John A. Russo.
Romero's other films include "Dawn of the Dead," "Day of the Dead," "Land of the Dead," "Diary of the Dead" and "George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead."
