CINCINNATI -- The Bengals extended TE Tyler Eifert's contract for another year -- through 2017 -- the team announced Wednesday.

The Notre Dame grad was drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft; he is a Fort Wayne, Ind. native and went to the University of Notre Dame.

"We had very high expectations for Tyler when we drafted him and he has met them all," head coach Marvin Lewis said in a press release.

Eifert scored 13 touchdowns in the 2015-16 season, despite missing four games due to injuries. Eifert's touchdown record is the best of any TE in Bengals history (and close to the record for all NFL TEs).

After game eight in the 2015-16 season, Eifert led the league in touchdowns.

Eifert signed a 4-year, $8.25 million contract with the Bengals in 2013.
