GOODRICH, Ariz. -- The Reds will play Jose Peraza, the player obtained in the Todd Frazier deal, at shortstop, second and center.
The Reds have players at all three of those spots, of course, but they’re looking for a role with Peraza.
“This kid we think is a tremendous player,” Price said. “We have to make the decision on if his value is going to be that type of flexibility and a guy that I can rotate around the field and get him regular playing time. There’s no advantages to him being simply a bench player on this team (and) not getting regular playing time. He’s going to play a lot of different positions and we’re going to see what is value is to the big-league ball club.
“A lot of us feel if he’s not ready now he’s going to be ready very soon to be an everyday big-league player. We’re not looking at him long-term as a utility player. That might be where he helps us to a certain degree to start the season, but that’s not the long-term goal. He’s going to be an impact player for us.”
