OWENTON, Ky. – Two children died in a mobile home fire Saturday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.
A 2-year-old and a 4-year-old were killed in the fire in their home at 900 Gaines Village Lot 7 before around 9:45 a.m., according to Trooper Joshua Lawson.
The children's father was asleep when the fire broke out, Lawson said. Neighbors banged on the home and woke him up, and he escaped through a window. Their mother was at work.
The father, Samuel Yager, said he went back in the window when he realized the girls were still inside, but the smoke was too thick and the girls were in a room on the other side of the home.
Police said foul play was not suspected and no criminal charges were pending.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
