CINCINNATI -- They say you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you, but would you bite the face that leads you?
Cincinnati-based Busken Bakery thinks you will. Since 1984, their "presidential cookie polls" have predicted the outcome of elections within four percentage points, according to Dan Busken, bakery president.
To conduct the poll, the bakery sells cookies printed with the faces of the Republican and Democratic nominees in addition to their regular yellow smiley face cookie. Each cookie purchase counts as a vote.
As of Oct. 3, Donald Trump was ahead in the poll with 5,580 votes -- 38.9 percent -- to Hillary Clinton's 4,882 votes, or 34 percent. The bakery also included their happy face cookies in this year's poll for voters who are undecided, disenchanted or supporting a third-party candidate but who still want to eat a cookie. They were trailing with 3,857 votes, or 26.9 percent.
The bakery will continue to update the poll results on its website.
"This may be the most important election we've ever faced in my lifetime," Busken said. "May the best cookie win."
