VILLA HILLS, Ky. -- A house fire closed River Road ahead of rush hour Thursday morning.
A family of four, two adults and two children, made it out of the home safely, according to Fire Chief Jeff Wendt. The house fire broke out before 4 a.m., dispatchers said.
The Crescent Springs Villa Hills Fire Department and Ludlow Fire Department responded River Road was closed near the 600 block for hours.

The fire started in the home's basement, Wendt said. The home is a total loss, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting the family with food, shelter and clothing.
