COVINGTON, Ky. -- Recent police killings in Texas and Louisiana brings to the forefront a tight rope officers walk every day: Personal safety is constantly on their minds, but they still want to be approachable to citizens.

Covington Police Spc. Gordon Purvis, with the force for nine years, said the vast majority of his calls are positive experiences.

But some aren't.

"There are always some people who are a little more hostile to police than others," he said.

Purvis said officers are watching each others' backs a little bit more these days.
