COVINGTON, Ky. - A basketball fundraiser for Valerie McNamara was a huge success Sunday.
Hundreds of grade schoolers and their parents attended the camp hosted by Xavier head coach Chris Mack, assistant coaches and players at the St. Henry Athletic Complex.
Mack came up with the idea to support McNamara, a mother of two and beloved community volunteer who was paralyzed in a partial building collapse in Covington last month.
So many people wanted to come that they had to close online registration. All the proceeds go to the Valerie's Prayer Angels Fund.
A friend of McNamara said there would be more fundraisers with a big one on Feb. 10 - "Valentines for Valerie," including dinner, dancing and a silent auction at Receptions in Erlanger.
