SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Four backseat passengers were hospitalized - two in critical condition and two serious - after a car crashed into a guardrail about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Hamilton Avenue near Northwest Drive.

Police arrested the male driver on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Six adults in their early 20s were riding in the Mitsubishi Lancer, police said. The crash closed Hamilton Avenue for several hours.

Authorities were alerted to the crash when a woman inside called 911 screaming in pain. Police said she begged 911 dispatchers to ping her cellphone to find them since she wasn't certain of their exact location.

Anyone with information is asked to call Springfield Township police at 513-729-1300.
