House fire kills woman in Springfield Twp.

Posted

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio - Fire officials think they know what started a fatal fire in a house on Arrowhead Court Tuesday, but they're not releasing that information publicly just yet.

Firefighters saw smoke in the distance but thought it was coming from nearby Wyoming. After getting a call, they arrived at the house around 12:30 p.m. and found the back of the home on fire.

They discovered the victim, a woman, dead in a bedroom.

“It’s really shocking and sad any time, but especially this time of year,” neighbor Colleen Wietmarschen said.

Wietmarschen said the woman killed had lived on the street for at least 17 years, before she and her family moved in.

"We’d talk when she came out, we’d talk," Wietmarschen said. "She’d keep to herself a lot, but she was always real friendly.”

Another neighbor said he was stunned.

"It's tragic ... it’s right in your own neighborhood. You just don’t think that things like this are ever going to happen," he said.

Officials did not release the victim's name Tuesday. They estimate the damage at about $100,000.
