NEWPORT, Ky. -- When someone stole a package off his neighbor's doorstep, Brian Leukering decided to install a high-def security camera at his front door.

In no time, Leukering's camera caught a man stealing a package off Leukering's porch, police said.

The thief came prepared – he put Leukering's package in a baby stroller and strolled off.

"It was something my grandfather made for my grandmother when they were high school sweethearts," he said.

The Newport Police Department arrested Chris Dowell, 27, in connection with the theft.

Dowell was booked into the Campbell County Jail on Wednesday on a count of theft of mail matter, according to the jail's website.

And it seems more than one Grinch has busy grabbing packages in Newport's East End.

"We had it once last week and we arrested that gentleman for that. We had another one yesterday," said Newport police Cpl. Larry Long.

Porch plunderers often follow delivery trucks, and strike just after packages are dropped off. So, what can you do to keep grinches from taking your stuff?

Long has a couple of suggestions:

"Have it delivered to your work, if that's available to you. Or you can have the post office try to hold them for you, and go to the post office and pick those up."
